In early October 2020, Coronavirus was making a resurgence in New York State. Instead of alerting all of New York to this issue, Governor Andrew Cuomo repeatedly made it about Orthodox Jews and created Red Zones within zip codes and towns where COVID-19 was supposedly doing worse than other places.
As Governor Cuomo diverted attention from the statewide problem, OJPAC kept arguing that the focus on Orthodox Jews and the creation of Jew-focused Red Zones are wrong.
As coronavirus continues to spread and new lockdowns are looming, officials should focus on the virus; not on Orthodox Jews.
The mission of the Orthodox Jewish Public Affairs Council (OJPAC) is to counter the defamation of the Orthodox Jewish Community, and to champion civil rights and civil liberties.
