STATEMENT on Odd Cuomo Line as to Why There is Outrage

Governor Cuomo keeps repeating an odd line that Orthodox Jews are upset because the current restrictions while softer than the ones in the spring are being enforced but back in the spring there was no enforcement.

Literally all major schools and virtually all Congregations were shut for months back in the spring so his claim makes no sense. (For those few small congregations that were open, note that per Cuomo’s rules at the time houses of worship were permitted to be open but with limited people and with no services.)

Secondly, back in the spring everyone was under lockdown. Now, however, Cuomo is making it about Orthodox Jews despite the fact that every day many counties have worse infection rates than Brooklyn, Rockland and Orange, and he is focusing on Orthodox Jews despite the fact that 33 counties - mostly with no Orthodox Jews in it - have infection rates of 1% or above after months of Cuomo boasting that NY is under 1%.

In summary, back in the spring Orthodox Jews were locked-own like everyone else with no free ride, and the current outrage is that Governor Cuomo and senior staff are pointing at Orthodox Jews, and he is pushing localities to enforce rules on Orthodox Jews when things are rising in many places yet those areas get a pass.
